Marunnuzze was inspired by a trip to Palermo with friends.
In this project, Davide returns to the theme of popular worship, focusing, this time, on votive shrines.
In Palermo, votive shrines, also called 'Marrunnuzze' in Sicilian, are to be found almost everywhere and are part of the history, superstitions, and cultural heritage of the people of Palermo. They can be found in particular on street corners, in the alleys of the city centre, and often positioned near the doorways of houses. The strong bond of the people of Palermo with votive shrines can be seen again and again in various details such as the presence of burning candles, fresh flowers, and family photographs often arranged to honour and remember the departed.
